Safest Baby Car Seat Position: A Simple Guide for Parents

Safest Baby Car Seat Position: A Simple Guide for Parents

When it comes to ensuring your baby's safety in the car, choosing the correct position for their car seat is crucial. With numerous options and varying opinions, parents may need clarification. Let's simplify things.

The Safest Position: Experts recommend the centre position if you install a single-child restraint in the back seat. Why? It minimises the risk of injury from side-impact collisions and offers maximum protection. However, it's worth noting that accessing this position might require maneuvering, especially for parents recovering from labour.  You also need to crawl into the back seat to load and unload baby from the car seat then crawl back.

The Passenger Side Advantage: While the centre position is technically the safest, the outboard seats (behind the passenger and driver) are also considered very safe. Opting for the passenger side brings added convenience, allowing easy access for loading and unloading your baby, while still standing outside of the car. Also, when parked on a road, loading and unloading typically occur on the safer side (footpath), away from traffic.

Consider Practicality: Despite the safety benefits of the centre position, it's not always the most practical choice for parents. Factors like post-labour recovery and ease of access are significant in decision-making. In such cases, the passenger side emerges as a favourable compromise, balancing safety with convenience.

Conclusion: While the center position is touted as the safest, practicality and convenience must be weighed alongside safety considerations. Whether you choose the center or passenger side, always refer to your vehicle's manual and the car seat instructions for proper installation and safety guidelines.

Here at Baby Mode we consult with our customer prior to there fitting and most of the time recommend placing your newborn child restraint behind the passengers side of the vehicle as sometimes its the best option, for both safety and convenience for both you and you baby.

At the end of the day, it is always the parents decision and consulting with your car seat installer is highly recommended, that way you can make a informed decision you feel comfortable with.
