Online Buyers Beware

21 January 2014

Unless you have been living under a rock for the last decade, you will know that the Internet can be a great place to find a bargain. From eBay to Amazon, there are so many outlets for us to find our wish list at a massive discount, so when your buying clothes, books and even electronics from overseas, it can be tempting to purchase baby goods online too. Everyday we see expectant parents overwhelmed by all the different items they need to buy for their new baby and sticking to their budget can feel almost impossible, but while we understand this, we STRONGLY advice against purchasing baby items from overseas or from online auction sites. There are a number of reasons why;

Firstly, is safety. The safety of your baby is of paramount importance and here in Australia we have a number of mandatory standards that are designed to ensure that all baby goods sold in Australia are safe. If you are purchasing an item from overseas it is not likely to meet the same standards as Australia and in many cases it may fall dramatically short. So while you might be saving a bit of money, you may be putting your child at risk, and in the case of car seats and capsules, you are also risking a significant fine if caught by police.

Another reason is the quality. Here in Australia items such as car seats and prams are rigorously tested not only to make sure they are safe but also to ensure their quality. If you buy an item from overseas the quality may be compromised and as a result, most manufactures will not cover your warranty. So if you begin to have problems with your item you will have no choice but to purchase another, potentially leaving you even more out of pocket than if you had just purchased the item from an Australian store in the first place.

Lastly, even though you may find a slightly cheaper price for an overseas item, buying from an Australian owned business is not only better for our economy but you will receive a level of customer service that an online store simply can’t provide. Here at Baby Mode, our friendly staff are continuously trained to ensure their product knowledge is up to date and they will be able to personally help you to find the items you are looking for. We also offer package prices and gift registries and if you buy an item through us and you have a problem with it during the warrantee period we will deal with the manufacturer directly and we can even give you a loan pram, if needed. We also offer a Price Match Guarantee to give a fair deal to our loyal customers, and while we don’t match auctions sites or overseas sellers, we will make sure you get the best price in Australia and an item that is safe.

So if you are concerned about your budget and considering purchasing from overseas, come and visit us in store and our staff will help you find the best deal to suit both you and your budget.
